Activate eSIM on iOS
Step-by-step activation guide for iPhone and iPad devices.
Requirements
- iPhone XS / XR or later (or iPad Pro 3rd gen+, iPad Air 3rd gen+, iPad mini 5th gen+)
- iOS 12.1 or later (iOS 17+ recommended)
- Stable Wi-Fi connection during activation
- Your device must be carrier unlocked
Method 1: Scan QR Code
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data)
- Tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan
- Tap Use QR Code
- Point your camera at the QR code provided in your purchase confirmation email
- Wait for the eSIM plan to load and tap Continue
- Label your new plan (e.g., "Travel Data") and tap Done
Method 2: Manual Entry
- Open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM
- Tap Use QR Code, then tap Enter Details Manually
- Enter the SM-DP+ Address from your confirmation email
- Enter the Activation Code
- Tap Next and follow the prompts
Method 3: Direct Install Link (iOS 17.4+)
- Open the iPhone install link from your confirmation email on your iPhone
- Your iPhone will automatically open Settings and begin the eSIM setup
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation
After Installation
- Go to Settings → Cellular
- Select your new eSIM plan
- Turn on Data Roaming
- Set the eSIM as your data line if prompted
- You're ready to connect!
Troubleshooting
- QR code won't scan? Try Method 2 (manual entry) or ensure you have enough screen brightness
- No service after activation? Toggle Airplane Mode on/off and ensure Data Roaming is enabled
- Error during installation? Restart your device and try again. Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi
- "eSIM cannot be added"? Ensure your iPhone is carrier-unlocked and supports eSIM
⚠️ Important: If activation fails for any reason, try restarting your mobile phone and attempt the activation again. A simple restart resolves most eSIM installation issues.
